The people—and chairman—behind Morty and Babes.
Long before there was a pet-care business, my wife called me “Morty,” and I called her “Babes.”
When my wife and I first started dating in the early 2010s, there was a commercial featuring an elderly couple. In it, the wife asks her husband, “Morty, are you listening?” The next scene finds Morty nodding off for a catnap, still sitting upright in his recliner.
My wife noticed a certain similarity.
So whenever she got the sense I wasn’t listening, she’d ask, “Morty, are you listening?” I’d answer, “Yes, Babes.” Whether or not I was listening… well, history can be the judge of that.
The names stuck.
So when it came time to name our company, Morty & Babes was a quick winner—which, of course, was my wife’s idea.
David Villarreal is a co-owner and the primary pet-care provider at Morty and Babes LLC. David is the “Morty” in Morty and Babes. Born in Austin, Texas, he moved to Rochester, New York, in late childhood. Animals have been part of his life throughout, from time spent around animals at his grandparents’ ranch in San Marcos to years of pet companionship and professional animal-care experience, including work in a veterinary emergency setting and dog walking and in-home pet care.
Amy is a co-owner of Morty and Babes LLC and the “Babes” in Morty and Babes. She often accompanies David on dog walks and brings a warm, easygoing presence to the animals they meet.
Finlee proudly serves as Chairman of Morty and Babes.
His duties include leading pre- and post-work briefings, upholding the highest standards of affection, and routinely barking at things that may—or may not—exist.
He also oversees morale and the strict accountability of all treats.
